What a pleasure to be in the Béarn region, in the historical city of Pau, with its urban circuit which the drivers particularly enjoy.
Friday : For the free pratice sessions the weather was rainy with a few sunny spells, which was an added difficulty for the teams for the constitution of the set-ups. During the 50 minute session, the track was constantly changing with alternate rainy and sunny spells. In these conditions Anthoine managed to come in fourth position.
The 25 minute mid afternoon qualification session started with a damp track surface that would progressively dry out. With only minutes left to the end of the session, Simon ABBADIE, the team manager, took the risk of recalling Simon GACHET and Anthoine to change to slick tyres. It was a good move because the Tech 1 Racing drivers claimed first place in just 3 track laps.
Saturday : Race 1 in the morning on an almost dry track, Anthoine in pole position maintained the advantage of first place during the entire race, closely followed by the russian driver Matevos ISAAKYAN and Anthoine's team mate Simon GACHET.Victory was at hand to Anthoine's great joy, and what a reward for all the team's work!
The 25 minute qualification session for race 2 started at 5pm and the track was perfectly dry. The drivers were able to optimise their performance in these ideal conditions.
At the end of the exercice Anthoine obtained his second pole position of the week-end, beating the british Mc LAREN junoir team driver B. BARNICAOT.
Sunday : under a slightly clouded sky race 2 started at 10:30. Anthoine flew off to a perfect start and didn't have to be concerned with any other contender for the full 25 minutes of the race. Another success in the city of Pau for Anthoine, with british driver J.HUGHES and french Lotus Junior team driver M.VAXIVIERE in 2nd and 3rd position. The entire Tech1 Racing team, under the management of Simon rejoiced at this second success but everyone is already thinking of the next Eurocup at SPA Francorchamps on the 30th and 31st of May.
This is how Anthoine analyses his performance : "On this type of circuit, it's very hard to overtake, the pole is 80% of the work; the start is 15%, and then you just have to not make any mistakes during the race. Two pole positions and two victories is obviously good for morale. The team has done some great work, the car is great, we're focused and our opponents can see it."
For a participation that wasn't planned, I think we can say like Julius Cesar : Veni, Vidi, Vici!
The next rendez-vous is 30th and 31st May, on the SPA Francorchamps track in Belgium.
