Anthoine a mis en pratique les remèdes concoctés par ART Grand Prix la semaine précédant le deuxième rendez-vous du GP3. Sur le circuit du Red Bull Ring, Anthoine a terminé la course longue en 3ème position à l’issue d’une lutte somptueuse dans laquelle il a gagné cinq places et signé le meilleur tour en course. Une pénalité de 10 secondes a malheureusement rétrogradé le jeune Français au 4ème rang. Dans la course sprint, Anthoine a pris les points de la 7ème place après s’être de nouveau octroyé les points du meilleur tour en course. Le Chartrain grimpe à la 3ème place au championnat.

Contraint de stopper sa monoplace à mi-séance, Anthoine a perdu un temps précieux pour peaufiner ses réglages et son pilotage en vue des qualifications de l’étape autrichienne du GP3. « Ce problème technique était assez pénalisant car je n’ai réellement fait que 3 tours en pneus durs alors qu’au Red Bull Ring les tendres étaient les gommes idéales ».

Malgré son déficit de préparation, Anthoine a fait montre d’un bon niveau de compétitivité en qualifications. Il a conclu la séance à moins de 3 dixièmes de la première ligne, mais avec un plateau contenu en seulement 8 dixièmes de seconde, s’inviter aux avant-postes n’était pas une sinécure. « Avec ce manque de repères, j’ai eu du mal à trouver la meilleure vitesse de passage dans plusieurs enchaînements. Du coup, la 8ème place n’est pas un résultat si négatif même si nous avions le potentiel pour être sur la deuxième ligne ».

Sur le Red Bull Ring, Anthoine a pris le taureau par les cornes à l’ouverture de la course longue. Huitième au départ, il a débordé trois adversaires avant de plonger à l’intérieur du troisième virage et de se propulser à la 3ème place. Dans la manœuvre, il a légèrement frotté Schothorst qui a lui-même éperonné Pulcini. Les commissaires de course ont déclaré Anthoine coupable d’avoir provoqué une collision et lui ont donné une pénalité de 10 secondes. Tour après tour, Anthoine a creusé l’écart nécessaire et suffisant pour réduire l’impact de sa pénalité au minimum. Au final, sa 3ème place a été transformée en 4ème.
« Le premier tour a été un peu fou, mais quand on passe de la 8ème à la 3ème place, on peut dire qu’il a été efficace ! Malheureusement, les commissaires ont estimé que j’avais été trop agressif au turn 3. Mais cette course restera comme la course référence pour l’instant, avec le meilleur tour, un très bon rythme et une bonne gestion des pneus. Cerise sur le gâteau, le quadruplé pour ART Grand Prix qui le mérite tant. ».

5ème au départ, Anthoine a été coupé dans son élan par Tveter qui a eu du mal à s’arracher de la grille. Au premier virage, il été envoyé au-delà du vibreur sur lequel il rebondissait lourdement et retrouvait la piste en 9ème position. 17 tours durant, Anthoine n’a cessé de harceler Boccolacci qui le bouchonnait, sans parvenir à trouver la faille. Mais dans le dernier tour, la faille devenait béante quand Boccolacci percutait violemment Lorandi et permettait à Anthoine de grimper au 7ème rang. En prime, Anthoine s’est offert les points de l’exercice très prestigieux du tour le plus rapide en course.
« En partant 5ème j’espérais bien mieux, au minimum ce podium qui me boude depuis le début de l’année. La performance était encore très bonne, mais il était très difficile de dépasser. Je suis 3ème au championnat après deux meetings et alors que je n’ai pas encore donné mon plein potentiel en qualifications, c’est plutôt satisfaisant ! ».

Anthoine applied the remedies made by ART Grand Prix the week before the second rendezvous of the GP3. On the Red Bull Ring track, Anthoine finished the long race at the 3rd place after a sumptuous fight in which he won five places and signed the best lap in the race. A 10 second penalty unfortunately retrograded the young Frenchman on the 4th rank. In the sprint race, Anthoine took the points of the 7th place after awarding again the points of the best lap in the race. He climbed at the 3rd place in the Championship.

Forced to stop his single-seater at mid-session, Anthoine lost a precious time to finalize his adjustments and his driving for the purpose of the qualifications of the Austrian step of the GP3. “This technical problem was a penalizing factor, because I just did 3 laps with hard tyres whereas the softer ones were the good tyres for the Red Bull Ring”.

Despite his lack of preparation, Anthoine has demonstrated a good competitive level of qualifications. He concluded the session at less than 3 tenths of the first line, but with a restrained set in only 8 tenths of seconds, to be in the outpost wasn’t a sinecure. “With this lack of reference, it was difficult to find the best passage speed in several sequences. Thus, the 8th place isn’t a so bad result, even if we had the potential to be on the 2nd line”.

On the Red Bull Ring, Anthoine grasped the nettle at the opening of the long race. 8th at the start, he overran three opponents before to dive in the third turn and to attain the third place. During the manoeuvre, he slightly rubbed Schothorst who touched Pulcini. The race commissioners declared Anthoine guilty for having provoked a crash and gave him a 10 second penalty. Lap after lap, Anthoine dug the necessary gap to reduce the impact of his penalty. Finally, his third place transformed in a 4th one.
« The first lap was a bit crazy, but when we go from the 8th to the 3rd place, we can say it was efficient! Unfortunately, the commissioners estimated I was too aggressive on turn 3. But this race will stay as the reference race for now, with the best lap, a very good rhythm and a good tyre use. The icing on the cake is the quadruple for ART Grand Prix, which deserves it so much.”

5th at the start, Anthoine has been obstructed by Tveter who had difficulties to draw from the grid. At the first turn, he has been sent beyond the vibrator on which he rebounded heavily and found back the track at the 9th place. During 17 laps, Anthoine continued to harass Boccolacci, without success. But in the last lap, the flaw became huge when Boccolacci violently rammed Lorandi and let Anthoine climbing at the 7th rank. As an added bonus, Anthoine won the points of the very prestigious exercise of the fastest lap in the race.
« Starting at the 5th place I hoped for better, at least this podium which has ignored me since the beginning of the year. The performance was very good again, but it was difficult to overtake. I am the 3rd of the Championship after two meetings and I still haven’t given my full potential in qualifications, it’s quite a satisfaction!”
