For the last week end of May, 34 drivers met in the belgian Ardennes for the second Eurocup FR 2.0 2015 edition. 70 000 spectators were present for this World Series by Renault meeting and despite cold and menacing weather, there were intense struggles on the tarmac in all catergories.
On friday the first free trial session was disrupted by light rain which called for several changes of tires. Anthoine came 6th in this session which isn't very representative. There was a dry circuit for the second afternoon session. After 50 minutes Anthoine finishes 7th.
On saturday, after a considerable amont of work by the engineers on the friday evening data, it was time for the time practice sessions. Anthoine came in third place in his group which enabled him to be second on the starting line. After several hard struggles in the first rounds Anthoine claimed the third place in front of the british driver AITKEN, and managed to conserve that position until the finish line.
On sundayAnthoine came in third place in his group for the qualification race 2, which put him in 5th starting position at 12:20. Despite a threat of rain, the tarmack remained dry for the duration of the race. After a good start, the Eau rouge turn and the strait line to the Combes avalée turn, Anthoine was locked in the middle of the pack in 8th position. Anthoine had to improve, which he did by finished in 6th place after a few gruelling duels.
Even though he regrets the result of race 2, Anthoine prefers to remember the positive points of the Week end at Spa : "We finished in 3rd place in the provisionnal Championship ranking with 17 points from the leader. We leave in second place with 6 points from the leader. Out of 9 races we had been on the podium 7 times. Since the beginning of the year, no matter the circuit, we have been on top of our game, and it's very encouraging for the whole team. We hope that it will lead us to victory in the Eurocup."
For the next race in Hungary from the 12th to 14th June, it's the same objective : improving our position in the championship by improving our score and tasting victory in the Eurocup.
Provisionnal ranking in the FR 2.0 Eurocup after Spa : DELETRAS (Swi) 70 points, Anthoine 64 points, HUGHES (GBU) 53 points, OLSEN (Norv) 50 points , ISAAKYAN (RUS) 49 points, SASAHARA (Jap) 43 points.
